Two 21-year-old men from Groesbeek are suspected of causing the accident that took place on Monday evening during a street race in Beugen. Both men were street racing and collided with a third car on Roman Street. One of the men and a pregnant woman were injured. The woman was driving the third car but had nothing to do with the street race. She broke her femur and was taken to hospital.
One of the men from Groesbeek was taken to a hospital in Nijmegen. He is still in hospital and has not yet been officially arrested. He is suspected of being involved in the accident.
Police said on Saturday that a second suspect has been arrested. It is also a 21-year-old man from Groesbeek. He has been arrested for reckless driving and involvement in the accident.
Footage of the street race could be seen at Dumpert. Police said it was likely a street race. There are also signs that street races are being held more often. The police ask witnesses of street races to report this to the emergency number 112.
