The SC Potsdam volleyball players have a good chance of crowning their first appearance in a final by winning the title in the fight for the German championship.
In the third playoff final game at MTV Stuttgart, the Brandenburg women prevailed 3:2 (25:15, 14:25, 25:21, 22:25, 15:9) and are now in the best-of-five series 2-1 ahead.
The team of coach Guillermo Naranjo Hernandez can complete the title win with another win in the fourth game in Potsdam on Friday. However, if MTV Stuttgart wins, a fifth game on Sunday should bring the championship decision.
In front of 2251 spectators in the sold-out Stuttgart Arena, the guests had to do without their regular Libera Aleksandra Jegdic. The Serb suffered a muscle injury. She was represented by Sarah Stiriz, who was only 18 years old.
Both teams recorded a set each for themselves at the beginning. The time that followed was far more exciting. In the third round, the Potsdam team had already pulled away to 20:15 thanks to the clever direction of setter Sarah van Aalen, but still had to worry about winning the set when their diagonal attacker Anett Nemeth was blocked to 23:21.
In the fourth set, the guests kept up until 22:22, but then they couldn’t avoid the tie-break. There, Potsdam quickly led 9:2 and could not be deterred from the road to success.
