Two late goals against Schalke: Hanover preserves a unique selling point

Hannover 96 won in the 2nd Bundesliga at FC Schalke. The Lower Saxony are the only team in German professional football in 2025 without defeat.

The difference was made on Friday evening (March 14, 2025), which Hanover’s coach André Breitenreiter had only substituted in the final phase. Only Jannik Rochelt met for the interim compensation (87th) before Havard Nielsen scored 2: 1 (0: 1) final score less than 60 seconds later.

Hanover has trouble – and still wins

With only 26 goals, Hanover has the best defense in the 2nd Bundesliga. However, they did not have difficulty defending there anyway, they rather had them in front of the opponent’s goal. It was also seen for a long time against Schalke: Loris Karius in the goal of the Schalker was challenged for the first time in the 68th minute when he fished a shot from Jessic Ngankam from the corner.

In the final phase, however, Breitenreiter urged the team to equalize, but it did not fell at first: substitute Nicolo Tresoldi came to the ball in the five -meter room, but he shot it in centimeters (83.). Schalke’s small series ends

Once, immediately after the restart, they appeared dangerously in front of the Hanover goal, but a shot from Kenan Karaman steered goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler over the crossbar (50th).

The equalization by Rochelt fell after Lars Gindorf hit the crossbar. Rochelt promoted the rebound. Then Schalke’s goalkeeper Karius jumped past the ball after a cross. So Nielsen came freely to the header.
