the first victim was on Aalsmeerweg in Amsterdam-South, between Hoofddorp and Aalsmeerplein, at about 3 pm when the tree fell. The person, whose details have not yet been released, was seriously injured and was able to be removed from under the tree with the help of firefighters. The victim was then taken to hospital. Despite the rapid deployment of the emergency services, all assistance was no longer avail- able. “The police are in the process of notifying the next of kin,” the Amsterdam-Amstelland fire brigade reported on Twitter.

The second death was regrettable in Diemen, where a tree fell on top of a car on Weesperstraat. The victim was in the vehicle.

The fire brigade reports that the number of reports coming in in the region has increased enormously on Friday afternoon. “It is extremely busy. All kinds of things pass by, fallen trees and other types of storm damage.” As far as is known, no further injuries have been reported in Amsterdam.
