Oula Palve’s hit decided Ilves’ victory in the first local match of the season.
– First local game for myself, such a cool experience and nice to get a win.
That’s Ilves’ star acquisition Oula Palveen the first thoughts about the victory in Thursday’s local match, when Tappara fell 5–3.
The center hit in the third set Jani Nymanin from a handsome pass, the fourth hit of the tassel ears, which was the winning goal of the match.
– I was able to push someone’s opponent upside down in the corner and take advantage of that. Nyman gave a nice pass from behind the goal and I forgot a little bit by myself in front of the goal, Palve said.
The man from Keuruu has mainly played in the same chain as Valkeakoski’s promising son in the early rounds of the league Jani Nymanin with. The cooperation has worked spectacularly at times. Among other things, against Äss, Nyman hit the puck in the spade bag after Palvi won the start.
– Nyman is a goal scorer type. I’ve always played well when I’m in a chain where I get to hold the puck a little more and have a young and hungry goal-scoring guy next to me. Sometimes I played well together Kristian Vesalainen and sometimes Kaapo Kako with.

On Thursday, Palve scored 1+1 and moved to the pole position of the league’s points market (2+7=9 power points).
– For the previous three matches, I didn’t seem to play any substitutions with superiority. There was a bit of an ice break. Now we got a couple of overtime goals in the opening set, so of course it helped.
Senteri scored a mentally significant opening goal for Ilves on Thursday. It hit the backpack Matias Mantykivi.
Recently, a quintet has been playing in the number one supremacy of tassel ears Eemeli Finland, Joona Ikonen, Petr Kodytek, Simon Stransky and Les Lancaster.
– They have done well, Palve commented.
He has worked as the conductor of the second force.
– Everyone wants to be number one. We work hard, so that whenever you get the upper hand, you have to be able to show it. A goal was scored today. Yes, we are good superiority players, Palve announced.
Earlier in his career, Palve was an excellent starter in HPK and Tepsi, but this season the man’s grips have fluctuated drastically. The winning percentages in eight matches are 28.6, 58.8, 35.7, 50.0, 71.4, 58.3, 46.2 and on Thursday against Tappara 31.3. The starting winning percentage for the entire season is 45.8.
– In previous years, I have been one of the best starters in the league. Maybe there’s a rhythm challenge in that I’ve been sometimes early and sometimes late. That’s not a problem, I’m still a good beginner.

Ilves had three losses (Pelicans, TPS and KalPa) with a goal difference of 2–8 before the local twist.
– We were even in a bit of trouble in a couple of games, but the panic wasn’t on yet. Two is the maximum that can be lost in a row. The third should have been translated. I’m glad it’s over now.
Palve did not want to comment Antti Pennanen to the fresh Leijonat-pesti, but on a general level, he did the work of a familiar coach at the helm of Ilves in the 2023–24 season.
– We must have moved forward in our own roles. It’s been going well so far. Pennanen finds balance very well and knows how to whip sometimes.
A special detail in Thursday’s match was when Ilves’ rather modest Canadian striker Jeremy Gregoire at the end of the game, you passed through the empty ax goal. Shortly after this, Tappara narrowed to 4–3, until Kodytek nailed the Final Scores to nothing.
– Too bad for Gregoire, because he played a good match. I would have wished him success. But it’s not the end of the world, it’s happened to me sometimes.
