Two injured in major fire in the center of Deventer | NOW

The large fire in the center of Deventer that broke out in the night from Monday to Tuesday is under control. Two people have been taken to hospital, according to the fire service. It is unknown what injuries they sustained.

The fire started around 4 a.m. and flames spread to several homes. The fire brigade deployed large equipment to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings. Because they are old buildings, that was very difficult. Around 6:00 am, the fire spread to an adjacent building, which houses a cheese trade.

The fire service expects to be busy on Tuesday morning with checks on surrounding buildings and with extinguishing. The fire brigade uses water from the IJssel for this. The Wellekade is therefore closed to traffic.

The IJsselland Safety Region advises everyone in the center of Deventer and the surrounding area to keep windows and doors closed and to turn off the ventilation in connection with the smoke.
