Two goals from Berghuis and Brobbey give Ajax victory and breathe new life into the title fight

Ajax simply beat SC Cambuur. Goals from Steven Berghuis (two), Brian Brobbey (two) and Dusan Tadic made it 0-5. Berghuis and Brobbey scored against RKC Waalwijk for the first time since October 23. The team from Amsterdam rises to third place and is virtually one point behind AZ and two behind leader Feyenoord.

Just like against Excelsior Rotterdam, John Heitinga opted for Mohammed Kudus and Owen Wijndal in the base against Cambuur. Brian Brobbey and Calvin Bassey started on the couch. From the start, Ajax was much stronger than the Frisians. Dusan Tadic was the most dangerous man with the team from Amsterdam in the initial phase. He first shot a free kick wide, but was still accurate after fifteen minutes. The Serbian rounded off a nice attack in a controlled manner: 0-1.

Moments later, he aimed just wide from the edge of sixteen. Via Steven Berghuis Ajax came to 0-2. After a nice solo from Kudus on the back line, he spooned the ball onto Berghuis’s head. Cambuur hardly came into play, but did get two great opportunities through Silvester van der Water. The Blaricummer did not have his sights on both times. That also applied to Kenneth Taylor, who failed face to face with Robbin Ruiter.

After the break, Ajax cheerfully continued to attack. This gave Kudus a life-size opportunity. Once again Amsterdammer Ruiter turned out to be a spoilsport. Berghuis made the final decision in the game in the 64th minute. After a one-two with Tadic, the midfielder shot his second hard into the goal: 0-3. For the first time since October 23, he scored two goals in one match for Ajax.

Brobbey came in in the final phase and crowned the raid with a goal. The ball got mixed up in front of his feet and the striker aimed the ball behind Ruiter: 0-4. The substitute striker also scored the fifth and final goal of the match.

Thanks to the victory, Ajax virtually rises to third place in the ranking with two points less than Feyenoord and one less than AZ. The leader will play against PSV from 2.30 p.m. and can therefore still catch up with the team from Amsterdam.

Setup Ajax: Rulli; Rensch (Regeer/86), Timber, Álvarez, Wijnda (Hato/73)l; Taylor (Fitz-Jim/86), Berghuis, Klaassen (Conceicao/86); Kudus, Tadic (Brobbey/73), Bergwijn
