Two eagle owl chicks born in Southeast Drenthe

In Southeast Drenthe, an eagle owl pair has had two cubs. The nest was discovered in mid-March by eagle owl expert Hans Hasper after a tip from a forester.

The eagle owls have chosen an old hawk’s nest as a breeding ground. The young are about three weeks old and healthy.

In 2019, a pair of eagle owls nested for the first time in Drenthe, in the Drents-Friese Wold. In the years that followed, the number of eagle owls in our province increased. Hans Hasper monitors the owls and counted seven territories in Drenthe last year. In total, three youngsters from different pairs grew up last year. The eagle owl pair in Southeast Drenthe is new.

The location of the nest is not disclosed, because eagle owls are very sensitive to disturbance.
