Two different halves: Fair draw between Braunschweig and Hertha

As of: February 24, 2024 4:04 p.m

Eintracht Braunschweig and Hertha BSC drew 1-1 (1-0) on matchday 23 of the 2nd Bundesliga.

It was a fair draw between the two teams, because the hosts were the better team on Saturday (February 24, 2024) before the break, and the guests were the better team afterwards.

Given the good second half of the season so far, it is likely to be a small setback for Eintracht in the relegation battle; Hertha remains in the middle of the table.

Successful pressing leads to 1-0

The Braunschweig fans saw off their team at the break with loud applause. They deservedly led 1-0 against harmless Berliners who didn’t get a shot on Ron-Thorben Hoffmann’s goal. BTSV was convincing on defense and constantly put the guests under pressure up front.

After exemplary pressing, coach Daniel Scherning’s team also scored the goal in the first half. The stressed Andreas Bouchalakis played a bad pass in the penalty area, Fabio Kaufmann picked up the ball and made it 1-0 for Eintracht with an angled shot (14th).

“50+1 stays”: Fans with choreo throughout the entire first half

On the back straight, their fans choreographed the entire first half to remind them that the collapsed deal to bring in an investor for the DFL had another central issue. “50+1 stays” could be read on the choreo. The 50+1 rule states that the parent club, which is supported by members, must always have the majority of votes in a club in order to limit the influence of possible investors.

Substitute Maza scores the equalizer early after the break

Berlin coach Pál Dárdai reacted to the weak performance before the break with three substitutions. That had an effect. Through substitute Ibrahim Maza, Herthan equalized in the 51st minute. It was the 18-year-old striker’s first goal of the season in his third appearance.

Braunschweig needed a bit of time to get back into the game with the score at 1:1. It was successful, but there were no good chances. From the 77th minute onwards, Eintracht found itself outnumbered, as Hasan Kuruçay was rightly shown a red card by referee Sven Jablonski after kicking Palkó Dárdai’s knee.

Hertha now against Kiel, Braunschweig at the club

At the start of the 24th matchday, Hertha welcomes Holstein Kiel on Friday (March 1st, 2024). Eintracht Braunschweig plays against 1. FC Nürnberg one day later.
