Two candidates from Lokaal Peel en Maas who were elected to the city council with preferential votes, renounce their seat.
It concerns Salvatore Cunsolo and Piet van den Haas, both from Baarlo. They were respectively in 11th and 25th place on the list of candidates. Van den Haas received no fewer than 464 votes, Cunsolo 246.
Preference
Van den Haas is not going to sit on the city council after all, because he prefers various positions that he holds for the benefit of the community of Baarlo. He wants to continue to commit himself fully to this. For example, Van den Haas is co-organizer of the annual Baarlose Volksfeesten and is a board member of the Village Consultation Baarlo.
Salvatore Cunsolo has decided not to take his council seat for personal reasons.
Big winner
Local Peel en Maas was the big winner of the elections. The party rose from 8 to 10 seats. Party leader Sander Janssen of Local Peel en Maas says he appreciates the choice of the two elected councilors. “Piet van den Haas makes a major contribution to the community of Baarlo and prefers to stand in the proverbial clay instead of committing himself to society from a seat in the council chamber. I can only have respect for Salvatore Cunsolo’s choice” , says Janssen.
100 percent
He states that membership of the council is not an easy task and that you must be able to commit yourself to it 100 percent. That is not possible for Cunsolo at the moment.
The places of the two are taken by the number 9 of the candidate list Piet Rooijakkers from Meijel and the number 13 Lincy Bruynen from Kessel-Eik. With 175 and 174 votes respectively, they also passed the threshold to be elected with preferential votes. But Local Peel and Maas had ‘only’ ten seats to allocate. Because ten other candidates received even more preference votes, they went ahead. Now that two of them have withdrawn, council seats are still available for Rooijakkers and Bruynen.
The new city councils will be installed across the country on Wednesday, March 30.
