Two carnival princes open the procession in Blankenberge

In the center of Blankenberge, spectators line up to see the floats and colorful groups, about thirty in all.

Carnival in Blankenberge is a piece of coastal heritage. The tradition of the carnival procession has existed since 1875. But it is not a little brother of Aalst Carnival. Blankenberge has its own interpretation of the carnival celebration. Current affairs are not taken into account here. Each year, the groups choose an original theme, colorful costumes and practice appropriate choreography. And after three years without a parade, the madness erupts.

Tomorrow there will be the children’s carnival procession and then on Tuesday the tour of the vuûle jeanets.
