Two boys stuck for hours in the elevator of the Vijzelgracht metro station

Yesterday, two boys were trapped in an elevator in the Vijzelgracht metro station in the center for a few hours. They were eventually freed by the fire brigade.

According to a spokesperson for the GVB, a report about the elevator confinement was received around 11.30 pm. Then the public transport care team of the transport company and the fire brigade were called.

Although the fire brigade and the GVB were at the elevator within half an hour according to protocol, the spokesman acknowledges that it took ‘a very long’ before the two could be freed. “The cause of this is still being investigated.”

The two were able to get out of the elevator around 1:30 am. Footage shows that the hatch at the top of the elevator had been opened and the boys, after standing on their bicycles, were pulled up by a firefighter.
