Two arrests after explosions in Amsterdam, possibly related to the murder of a Dutch rapper

Last night, several explosions occurred near homes in various parts of Amsterdam. Explosions took place in the East, North and South East districts. The police suspect a connection between the various explosions and consider a link with the death of Dutch rapper Bigidagoe, who was shot in Amsterdam-West on Sunday. “One of the scenarios takes into account conflicts within various rival rap groups, or the criminal environment,” says the Amsterdam police said in a statement on Wednesday.

During two explosions, the word ‘war’ was sprayed with graffiti on the facade. In connection with an explosion at the Mastbos in Amsterdam-Noord that damaged the porch of an apartment, the police made two arrests on Wednesday shortly after midnight. Little is currently known about the precise motives of the perpetrators.

The duo — a 23-year-old man and a 28-year-old man — were arrested by police shortly after they drove away at high speed from the scene of the explosion in Amsterdam East. Two more explosions occurred later that night. First at Populierenweg in Oost, later at Kelbergen in Amsterdam Zuidoost, just after 3 a.m., which caused glass damage to a building, among other things.
