The writing is short, and Musk does not elaborate on which accounts are interpreted as inactive. However, Twitter has previously stated that in order to keep their account active, the user must log in to the service at least every 30 days.

Most obviously, there are also plenty of so-called bot accounts among the inactive accounts. Even before Musk bought Twitter, “cleanings” have been carried out in the company. For example, in 2018, it was reported that Twitter had removed a whopping 70 million fake and junk accounts.

Musk has recently revamped Twitter with a heavy hand. According to researchers, the propaganda machines of Russia, China and Iran have benefited from the reforms, among others.

The EU recently passed a new law on digital services, which requires the largest internet services to increase the moderation of their services in order to curb the spread of harmful content.
