Twitter post causes Cavani euphoria at S04

A wild rumor circulated in Gelsenkirchen for a few hours on Friday, linking FC Schalke 04 to star striker Edinson Cavani. The trigger was probably a not entirely serious tweet.

Since promotion to the Bundesliga was confirmed, those responsible at FC Schalke 04 have been working hard on possible squad reinforcements – and have since achieved some notable successes.

The signing of Florent Mollet in particular has put the Royal Blues in a good mood in the last few days. When details about the extension of Lee Dong-gyeong’s loan got through on Friday, the rumor mill briefly rolled over.

“Sky” journalist Dirk Große Schlarmann reported on Twitter the details of the Lee deal, which stipulates that the South Korean will initially stay at Schalke until December. In addition, the S04 reporter added that Lee should not be the last transfer of the day.

Schalke’s head of sports communication, Marc Siekmann, picked up the reports and confirmed the information. Grosse Schlarmann then posted a picture of the jubilant Edinson Cavani, somewhat ironically, under the club official’s answer.

Brief euphoria at FC Schalke 04

The star striker from Uruguay is only under contract with Manchester United until the end of June and would therefore be available on a free transfer for the coming season. At least on Twitter, a number of fans jumped on the story and briefly dreamed of a transfer coupe.

However, such a transfer was never realistic. According to media reports, Cavani is currently earning between ten and 15 million euros per season at United. Such a salary would be completely utopian for the climber.

The solution to the puzzle of the unknown new signing followed in the afternoon when Schalke announced Tom Kraus’ commitment. The midfielder will initially come on loan from RB Leipzig. In the event of relegation, a purchase obligation of allegedly around three million euros applies.
