Twitter has launched a legal protest in front of a court against the Indian authorities
Twitter protests against the laws that seek to regulate its content in the country
Twitter has taken legal action against the authorities in India for the laws that the government has passed. The social media giant filed a legal petition with a Karnataka state high court. This petition seeks to resist “several” orders by the government to remove content on Twitter. The social platform has reacted forcefully to a letter from the government in June warning of “serious consequences” of non-compliance with such laws.
According to one estimate, Twitter has more than 24 million users in India. Hours after the petition was filed, Federal Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar tweeted that all foreign internet platforms had to comply with Indian laws.
In India, all including foreign Internet intermediaries/platforms have right to court and judicial review.
But equally ALL intermediary/platforms operating here, have unambiguous obligation to comply with our laws and rules. #Open #SafeTrusted #Accountable #Internet

Sources familiar with the matter claimed that the government had warned Twitter in June, saying it was the company’s “last chance” to comply with a number of laws and blocking orders. The information about this process that is now being opened was published by the British media outlet BBC, which has had a direct relationship with those affected.
