Actually, the blue Twitter tick should cost eight dollars for all users – but it will be even more expensive for iPhone owners…

Elon Musk plans to offer the hook in the App Store for eleven dollars in the future, as reported by The Information. With the surcharge, the new Twitter boss shares it against Apple, because the tech group is supposed to bag 30 percent of all income that is made through its App Store.

A few weeks after his Twitter takeover at the end of October, Musk got upset about the common practice and announced that he would “go to war” against the alleged rip-off. But last week Musk and Apple boss Tim Cook settled their dispute – actually.

Because the surcharge corresponds roughly to the commission that Apple would withhold. Twitter was left with eight dollars per hook. At the same time, users should only pay seven dollars if they order via the web browser or via other app stores.

Apple is estimated to earn around $20 billion a year from commissions through its App Store. Not only Twitter, but also platforms like YouTube therefore charge more money for their subscription services in the store than with other providers. (nko)
