Twins vote on their 18th birthday: “The mayor came in a Rolls-Royce”

Bas and Linda were picked up today by Mayor of Bergen, Lars Voskuil, in a Rolls-Royce Cabriolet to vote. He also brought them cake, because the twins turned 18 today. In the car they drove together to Schoorl where the mayor accompanied the twins in their first vote.

And that voting turned out to be a little different than expected. “I didn’t know you had to choose a person too,” admits Linda. “In the end it all worked out, because I knew which party I was going to vote for.” The twins did not know what each other was going to vote for.

Upon arrival, the mayor symbolically presented the twins with their voting rights. He did this by giving an original tuning pencil. According to him, they can be recognized by the perforated back. After this, the twins cast their votes under the interest of the press.

With the campaign, the mayor tried to draw the attention of young people to the importance of their vote. According to Bas, that was successful. He was also impressed by the mayor’s work. “He does have a nice job, delivering a bit of pies in a Rolls-Royce.” The car was made available by a resident of Bergen, especially for this occasion. “Normally I drive a slightly smaller car, a Fiat 500”, laughs the mayor.
