Twice red-orange, twice Rothko, twice abstract, with stripes. Two identical paintings, but one is worth 13 million more. How is that possible? † Art & Literature

artTwo paintings, which at first sight are identical, by the well-known cult painter Mark Rothko are going up for auction in London. They are the same size, and they have the same colors and layout. Will they also be sold for the same price? So no. One work of art is estimated at a maximum of 59 million, the other at 73 million. So much difference, how is that possible? “The price is not only determined by what you see on the canvas.”
