Those on board a sailing yacht had an unfortunate morning on the IJsselmeer. They got into trouble twice.
The two people on board had anchored off the port of Wijdenes on Monday evening to sail towards Vlieland the next morning. During breakfast, around 8.30 am, things go wrong. The anchor drops, causing the sailboat to land on the Zuiderdijk.
Once free, they sail towards the harbor, after which they attach the boat to a pole between which fish traps are located. Here it goes wrong again: the wind and waves push the boat into a trap, causing them to get stuck.
A bystander on the dike sees it all happening and sounds the alarm at the Dutch Coast Guard. A KNRM lifeboat in Wijdenes comes to the rescue and eventually rescues the two people on board. If it turns out that the boat has not suffered any damage, the journey to Vlieland will be resumed.
The traps are also checked, after which the damage is recorded at the angler.
