“Homes that are being built or renovated this year must meet E-level 25”, says Flemish MP Robrecht Bothuyne (CD&V). “Anyone who builds even more energy-efficiently than the E-level that currently applies will receive a financial boost, via a discount on the property tax. More and more people are making that effort.”
The answer to a parliamentary question from Bothuyne shows that in 2021 there were 51,747 families. That is 34 percent more than in 2020, when 41,369 families grew below the E level. Compared to 2019, this was almost a doubling. Then there were 26,862 families.
In 2021, the tax bills of these families allowed a discount of more than 30.5 million euros on the property tax. On average, it concerns a discount of 590 euros per year, and that for five years.
