The police issued a total of 20 fines to drivers of fat bikes in the city center of Alkmaar on Friday and Saturday evenings. Most fines have been issued to young people under 18 years old.
The Alkmaar police have recently received dozens of nuisance reports about fat bikes from local residents, shopkeepers and companies. According to reports, the fat bikes drive very fast and ride on the sidewalk or in places where this is not allowed. As a result, there were additional checks in the city center of Alkmaar last weekend. The officers were on Langestraat both evenings.
“A total of 20 fines have been issued,” a police spokesperson told NH. The fines have been given for various violations such as having throttles, driving faster than 25 kilometers per hour, ignoring entry bans and cycling in places where this is not allowed.
A majority of those fines were issued to young people from Alkmaar. “Most young people were also under the age of 18,” the spokesperson said. The police announced via Instagram that these types of checks will be held more often in the near future.
