TweetDeck on Mac, it’s over!

Twitter announced on June 1 the discontinuation of the Mac application of TweetDeck, its service widely used by communication and marketing professionals to organize their Twitter homepage. The social network wants to focus on the web version of the service by offering new features.

End clap for TweetDeck on Mac

It was through a tweet and an informative banner that the social network warned TweetDeck users: its Mac application will close its doors on July 1st. You will now have to go through the web version to use the monitoring software. The social network talks about the desire to improve the user experience of its tool by adding new features in the coming months.

The restructuring of TweetDeck will allow Twitter teams to offer new functions within a new interface. Among those already revealed, a comprehensive tweet editor for brands to edit their posts, new advanced search features, new column types, and Decks, a new way to group columns into separate categories. At the moment, only a few selected people in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan have access to this new version.

TweetDeck, the scrap of Twitter

Acquired in 2011 for $40 million by Twitter, TweetDeck was neglected by the platform for a very long time. Yet the service has a real daily user base who would be willing to pay to use the software. Over the years, the social network preferred to end the mobile versions available on iOS, Android and Adobe Air in 2013 and the application available on Windows in 2016. Instead, Twitter favors the development of new features inherent to its platform such as Super Follows or Spaces.

With the takeover of Elon Musk, still suspended, there is no guarantee that the changes revealed by the teams of the social network will be kept.
