The Twan Huys show College Tour will be fifteen years old in six months. Is this anniversary a good time to retire? Radio star Niels van Baarlen thinks so.
There was a time when College Tour was the Dutch stage to interview the greats of the world, such as Richard Branson, Sting, Louis Theroux and Christine Lagarde. Big home names such as Johan Cruijff, Joop van den Ende and Jan Peter Balkenende also joined. But what about now, fifteen years later?
‘Format is jaded’
It is clear that the ambitions of the College Tour editors have fallen somewhat. Being in the past series usual suspects Sigrid Kaag and Caroline van der Plas interviewed, and Jutta Leerdam appeared to talk about her relationship with a YouTube star. That can also be done next time in Shownieuws or RTL Boulevard, right?
Niels van Baarlen, part of Radio 538’s main show, thinks the format has become worn out. “I still think: College Tour is finished. It goes on too long. That’s where the greats used to be. I believe the Dalai Lama was there and Barack Obama, I don’t know, and we are now in line Kaag, Van der Plas.”
“Who cares?!”
Tim Klijn, his colleague on the 538 morning show, thinks it’s still entertaining. “Mwa, I think a lot of people are curious.”
Well, according to Niels that is not too bad. “Jutta Leerdam was there last week! Who cares?”
Tim: “Yes, I don’t think many people are curious about Jutta Leerdam.”
Niels: “Exactly. He does not have the stature to be in the College Tour.”
Nice woman
Sidekick Rick Romijn understands the choice for Jutta. “She’s a nice woman.”
Niels agrees: “Yes. Twan Huys probably thought so too. He thought: after Kaag I want a nice woman. Hahaha.”
