The revelations of TV maker Kees van der Spek about cheating reunions in the program will ultimately not survive without a trace. That is the expectation of Evert Sanwaarden.
The Derk Bolt show Spoorloos is under heavy fire now that Kees van der Spek has revealed in the talk show of Eva Jinek that cheating reunions have taken place in the program. The well-known TV journalist will elaborate on this tonight in his program Scammers Tackled on RTL 5.
cheat fixer
The scammer who focuses on Kees this time is Edwin Vela, Spoorloos’ Colombian intermediary. The TV maker has discovered that Edwin has linked at least two candidates from Spoorloos to the wrong biological family. “He is someone you should be able to rely on blindly, but along the way turned out not to be the case.”
Money may play a role: if Edwin isn’t successful as a fixer, he won’t be booked again anytime soon. “You have to realize that such a man works indirectly for Spoorloos, and he earns from it.”
From the tube?
Private boss Evert Sankrediets expects Spoorloos to go off the air. “I think this will mean the end of Spoorloos. This will be such a blot on the program that you also have to say to yourself: ‘We are holding back. We’re going to see why things went so wrong then and why we started DNA checks so late.’”
Spoorloos only started DNA checks in 2019. “While that technology has been around for much longer, of course. At least fifteen years could have been easy,” he says in his podcast Strictly Private.
‘Such a shame!’
Evert thinks it is a shame that according to him this means the death knell for Spoorloos. “It is such a waste of the Spoorloos program. Such a TV monument to which Derk Bolt has always sacrificed his entire private life, because he brought people together himself, but all that traveling cost him his own marriage. That is very painful.”
“I can imagine that in those kinds of countries you have to use things that don’t exactly run according to the rules, but you have to be convinced that those people then deliver what they have to deliver. You cannot link up half-brothers who are not half-brothers and return to the Netherlands satisfied. That is very painful.”
Unreliable
If Spoorloos does go ahead, then the viewer will watch the program with suspicion, according to Evert. “This is not pleasant for a program like Spoorloos, which has to have a large part of its reliability.”
Does he think it is uncollegial that Kees possibly gives his TV colleagues from Spoorloos the death blow? “If you expose wrongdoing, and this is one of them, then he is absolutely right.”
