Tuukka Ritokoski tells about a bus trip of horrors in the middle of the Philippines

During their journey, the Amazing Race contestants were caught in the middle of floods.

Radio host Tuukka Ritokoski has made a habit of telling revelations on Mondays Amazing Race Finland behind the scenes of the program.

In Radio Suomipop’s Aamulypsy, the most recent episode was discussed again, where the contestants had an adventure in the Philippines. The contestants’ tasks were, among other things, to play basketball, collect frogs from the swamp and sing karaoke.

Ritokoski says that the shooting day did not end in the happiest way. There were huge floods in the Philippines right at the time of filming and also in Finland The Amazing Race -competitors and the program’s Filming Team had to face natural phenomena. The episode also showed a short clip from the middle of the floods.

According to the radio host, people had even lost their homes due to the floods.

Ritokoski says that after the end point of the stage, the competitors were assigned to one minibus and the Filming Team to another minibus. Competitors’ accommodation was about an hour and a half drive from the end point. However, due to the floods, the trip took a very long time.

– The return journey took 8–9 hours, originally 1.5 hours, Ritokoski reveals on the radio.

Ritokoski says that at first they tried to make the trip via the highway, but they had to make a U-turn and try smaller roads.

After four hours of trying, the stomachs rumbled, but there wasn’t much money available.

– We started collecting papers, everyone dug out their own money. We got some money together, says Ritokoski.

The contestants had gone to eat at a fast food restaurant.

Atmosphere on the roof

Ritokoski describes that the long journey did not tighten the atmosphere of the competitors, even though sweat smelled and there was no suitable sleeping position on the bus.

– There was a good feeling and atmosphere there. We played gallows, word explanation game and ship sinking of course.

Ritokoski says that the map reader Timo Rautiainen had previously printed ship sinking coupons prepared from the hotel as an incentive for everyone. The game was played on bus trips as well as on the plane.

In the end, the bus group had managed to get to the accommodation after hours of trying.
