Turull, before the national council of Junts: “We do not give up anything”

The national council of Junts per Catalunya, meeting in a face-to-face and telematic session, has ratified, in an atmosphere of self-affirmation and optimism, the investiture pact with the PSOE. The meeting lasted approximately one hour and forty minutes, in which the secretary general, Jordi Turullhas defended the agreement with conviction: “That a Spanish party recognizes that the conflict dates back to 1714 had not been recognized“, she stated. Also the president of the party and the person in charge of Junts in Madrid, Laura Borras and Miriam Nogueras, have closed ranks, as EL PERIÓDICO has learned. The six interventions by the party’s bases have all been complimentary regarding the pact, highlighting that Puigdemont has achieved, in his opinion, that the State sits down to negotiate with the independence movement, which is a “historic opportunity“.

Borràs conditions stability

The session included a brief initial intervention by the president of the national council, Josep Rull, who has highlighted how the agreement establishes, in his opinion, the recognition of the Catalan nation. Rull has defended the role of Junts in recent years. Next, Laura Borràs highlighted the change in position of the PSOE about the amnesty and about the Catalan conflict. “The change in the narrative is absolute“, he stressed to highlight the role of Junts. “Junts has not passed through Madrid and the PSOE has passed through Brussels,” he detailed. In his speech he praised the role of ‘former president’ Puigdemont.

Borràs has defended the methodology used by JxCat to negotiate with the PSOE. The sovereigntist leader has stressed that the stability of Pedro Sánchez’s Government will be “conditioned” by the progress in the negotiation table between both parties.

The longest intervention was that of Turull, who highlighted issues such as the PSOE recognizing that it is the Parliament that represents the will of the Catalans. “We don’t give up anything“, he also highlighted at another point in his speech. Regarding the scope of the amnesty law and whether it could benefit Borràs, sentenced to four years in prison for rigging contracts, Turull He stated that in the negotiation no names were discussed and that “at no time has the president of the party asked me” about his personal case. “Never, at any time,” she insisted.

This Saturday and Sunday the Junts militants will vote electronically for or against the agreement with the PSOE. It is more than foreseeable that, given that the executive and the national council have resoundingly endorsed an agreement led by ‘former president’ Puigdemont, the result of the telematic vote will be a majority endorsement of that agreement.
