With commandos, fighter planes, helicopters and armed drones, the Turkish Air Force attacked shelters, tunnels and ammunition depots, among other things. That happened in the regions of Metina, Zap and Avashin-Basjan.
“A large number of terrorists have been neutralized,” Akar said. The PKK has been told that “intense fighting” with the Turkish army is underway. Also “in the coming hours and days” there would be attacks. The offensive is needed to prevent a large-scale attack by the PKK against Turkey, it said.
Turkey regularly attacks targets of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party – which it considers a terrorist organization – in the Iraqi Kurdistan and Sinjar regions. The PKK is also on the terror list in the European Union and the United States.
