Turkey received a request from Ukraine to restrict the passage of Russian warships through the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles, declared Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. Russia has the right to allow ships to pass through the straits, in particular so that they return to their bases.
“Turkey may restrict the passage of warships through the straits. However, the Montreux Convention also provides that the ships of the countries participating in the war can return to their bases, and this should be allowed for them,” Cavusoglu said.
