A National Men’s Basketball Team defeated Spain 72-69 in the last match of FIBA 2022 European Championship Group A and finished second in the group. The opponent of the Nationals in the last 16 rounds will be the third in Group B.
In the fifth and last match of the FIBA 2022 European Championship Group A, the National Team faced Spain in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. In the first period of the struggle for the group leadership of the two teams, which had 3 wins and 1 loss in the first 4 games, Turkey was superior to 18-17 in the first period, while at the end of the first half there was a 38-34 superiority of Spain. The national team, who closed the third period behind 56-50, finished the match with a 72-69 loss, even though they caught their opponent in the last period. With this result, the crescent and star team, who lost their second defeat in the group, finished the group in second place.
While Cedi Osman was the top scorer of the match with 20 points from the national team, Furkan Korkmaz contributed to his team with 16 points, while Alperen Şengün scored a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. In Spain, Willy Hernangomez was his team’s top scorer with 15 points.
Finishing the Group in the second place after Spain, the National Team will be matched with the team that will complete Group B in the third place in the last 16 rounds. Round of 16 competitions will start on September 10 in Berlin, the capital of Germany.
