In the night from Friday to Saturday, the Ghent police had to intervene in two fights in the Overpoort. “We received a report that bystanders were threatened with a knife,” explains spokesperson Liesbet De Pauw. “However, upon arrival, the knife appeared to have disappeared.”
In a second incident near Elixir nightclub, a policeman was punched in the face. There too, the inspectors had to intervene after hotheads had come to blows. The 24-year-old man who dealt the blow has been arrested. His punishment will follow later.
