Tupac Shakur: Suspect can wait at home for trial on $750,000 bail

Shakur’s alleged murderer is allowed to wait in house arrest for further court dates if he pays bail.

The former gang member who is said to have murdered Tupac Shakur could now wait in house arrest with electronic monitoring for the trial, which begins on June 3rd, if he pays $750,00 bail.

During a hearing on Tuesday (Jan. 9) to consider the defense’s request for release or appropriate bail, his attorney Robert Arroyo argued that suspect Duane Davis would not pose a danger to the public. Your 60-year-old client is in poor overall health due to his age and his cancer.

Duane Davis: (Not) a danger to the public?

Furthermore, according to Billboard, the court said: “If Duane is so dangerous, if this case is so overwhelming, his guilt is so overwhelming – why did the authorities wait 15 years to arrest him?” argued Davis’ public defender asked for bail of $100,000. The opposing side was of the opinion that the defendant was “a very, very great danger to the public.” Especially for witnesses who could testify against him in the trial, which is why they demanded a higher or no bail option.

They based their position on a recorded phone conversation between Davis and his son in October 2023, in which the two used the term “green light,” which they said would mean “permission to kill.” According to reports from Billboard, the defense claimed that the conversation had been misinterpreted. Her client never planned to carry out an attack on witnesses. Rather, he was worried because word had spread on the street about what he was accused of and that his own family was now in danger.

More about the case

Davis has been held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas since his arrest on September 29, 2023. He was charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon with other gang members in connection with the 1996 drive-by murder of Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas. He himself pleaded not guilty. The next court date is scheduled for February 20, 2024. The big trial begins on June 3rd.
