Tunnel collapsed in Heerlen: emergency services start digging | 1Limburg

A tunnel has collapsed in Heerlen. Emergency services are on the scene to see if anyone has been buried.

The tunnel was dug manually in a forest plot on the Palemigerbord in Heerlen.

The emergency services are going to dig the tunnel open again to see if anyone is trapped. The tunnel was recently dug. “Someone has started digging with a shovel. We are now going to see if someone is also under it,” says Leon Eummelen of the South Limburg Security Region.

Fairly fresh
A number of items were found at the site of the collapse, which prompted the security region to start looking. Due to the investigation, the spokesperson cannot yet say what kind of items are involved. It is not clear how long ago the dug tunnel collapsed. “But it looks pretty fresh, let me put it this way,” said the spokesperson. “If the tunnel actually collapsed recently, then of course every second counts.”
