Hip-hop and marijuana go quite well together, as countless rap lyrics teach us. So it doesn’t seem surprising at first that there is now a new series that combines the two topics. Hosted by the lovable and smart Run The Jewels member Killer Mike, though, it could still be quite interesting. The four-part documentary series is called “Tumbleweeds: Rolling Through America” and runs on Vice.
In the series, the musician explores the history of marijuana in the USA with various interlocutors and also dives deep into cannabis culture. Opposite the culture magazine “consequenceWhen asked what viewers can expect to see on Tumbleweeds, Killer Mike said, “You’ll get a better understanding of what’s happening around marijuana right now.”
Killer Mike: legalization supporter since “day one”
In addition, Killer Mike positioned himself on the subject of marijuana legalization. As you’d expect, the rapper is committed to the free sale of cannabis “from day one.” He states, “I’m all for personal responsibility and free choice in what one wants to consume.” Thirty-seven of the 50 US states currently have legal cannabis for medical purposes, and 18 of those states allow adults to use marijuana without a medical reason. However, cannabis remains illegal at the federal level in the United States, although the US House of Representatives recently passed a bill to decriminalize marijuana nationwide. It is questionable whether enough Republicans will agree in the Senate.
Additionally, Killer Mike announced that he and El-P, the other half of Run The Jewels, are working together on new music. The current album by the hip-hop duo RTJ4 was released in 2020. The upcoming album should logically be called RTJ5.
