For Lukas Tulovic, the 2023 motorcycle world championship is not under a good star. At his late season debut in Austin/Texas, the 22-year-old from Eberbach fell in the first lap of the Moto2 race and was eliminated.
The Kalex driver missed the first two races of the year due to a hand injury sustained during testing.
The 18-year-old Spaniard Pedro Acosta celebrated his second win of the season, intercepting the Italian Tony Arbolino, who had been leading until then, on the last lap. Third place went to Dutchman Bo Bendsneyder, who was on the podium for the first time in his career and tearfully dedicated this success to his grandfather, who died on Friday.
In the World Championship standings, Arbolino maintained his lead with 61 points ahead of Acosta (54) and the Spaniard Aron Canet (41).
The Moto3 race, in which 18-year-old Spaniard Ivan Ortola celebrated his first ever win, saw a series of spectacular crashes that left Italy’s Stefano Nepa and Japan’s Tatsuki Suzuki fractured legs. In the Moto3 there is no German driver at the start.
