Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea’s trainer, cannot yet imagine that the club will soon have a different owner than Roman Abramovich. The wealthy Russian has put the London top club up for sale. A new era is dawning for the winner of the Champions League.
,,It’s a bit too early to talk about that, because I can only think of Chelsea with Abramovich. So it’s very hard for me. It still doesn’t dawn on me that this is going to stop. It’s a huge change of course,” said Tuchel after the difficult FA Cup win over Luton Town (2-3).
The preparation for the duel with the number 6 of the Championship was considerably disrupted, Tuchel also noticed. ,,The players have internet connections, they watch TV, so of course they knew they would receive messages. However, we only focused on sports in preparation. Maybe some players suffer more than others, but in the end we managed to focus, grow in the game and find the key to winning.”
In the coming days, more will become clear about the future of Chelsea, also for the players and coach. “I don’t think I need to talk about it, I don’t know as much as people might think. I am not a CEO or a member of the board of directors. So I’m sure the club will talk to us and the players,” he said.
“I’m not too worried because I still feel privileged and in the right place. I’m not so much the person who worries about things I can’t control. It’s big news and it will be a big change. But I am also never afraid of change and will focus on what I can influence: the staff and the players.”
Chelsea, which is third in the Premier League, awaits the away game against Burnley on Saturday.
