Tumbler Joni Hesselgren has been convicted in the district court of Itä-Uusimaa as guilty of three counts of defamation. Hesselgren was considered to have insulted a fellow trumpeter Janne Naakan honor with the Youtube videos he published in 2019–2020.
Hesselgren’s punishment for the three crimes is a total of 120 daily fines, which makes his income 720 euros. In addition, Hesselgren is obliged to compensate Janne Naaka EUR 8,000 for suffering and EUR 2,000 for temporary inconvenience. In addition, Hesselgren has to compensate Naaka’s court costs of EUR 8,035.20 with interest.
In the videos, Hesselgren harshly criticized Naaka’s appearance and personality, among other things. The first video was published in 2019. The videos have since been removed.

A subpoena application was submitted to the Itä-Uusimaa District Court already in October 2020. The case was discussed in court only recently on April 25.
Naakka told the court that he suffered from physical and psychological symptoms because of the videos. He found the videos as a whole very offensive and distressing. In particular, barking to be fat had hurt him a lot. Hesselgren justified the videos in court with satire. Hesselgren told the court that he no longer wants this kind of satire to be part of his brand.
The verdict is not legally binding, and the decision can be appealed by appealing to the Court of Appeal or a preliminary ruling appeal to the Supreme Court.
