TT also immortalized in a theater performance: ‘Because it means something different for everyone’

Stacked tires, minibikes and finish flags on the ground set the stage for the very first TT theater performance tonight, as an ode to the racing event. The Gouverneurstuin in Assen was renamed a theater garden especially for the occasion. About a hundred visitors came to listen to storyteller Toine Straatman and entertainer Jason Staal.

The idea for the cultural activity had been shelved for three years, says Sander ten Bosch, director of the TT Week Assen Foundation. The theater performance would already take place in 2020, but the corona virus put a stop to that. Tonight the tryout then finally started. Ten Bosch hopes to attract a broad target group with the performance. “Because there are also people who don’t just want to attend the festivities,” said the director.

According to him, this idea is reflected in the theater experience. “The TT means something different to everyone,” says the narrator Straatman. “For some it’s about motorcycle races with champions, for others it’s about boozing at the festivals, the fair or fleeing the city, and making sure you’re a long way away.”
