In preparation for winter
U17 world champion Max Moerstedt is preparing for the second half of the season for the first time with the Bundesliga professionals TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The 17-year-old striker made a really good impression during training some time ago. “He can show himself there again. We will then discuss further measures,” said coach Pellegrino Matarazzo on Wednesday, but also emphasized: “U17 is something completely different than professional business or the Bundesliga.”
The 1.94 meter tall Moerstedt is part of Christian Wück’s German selection team, which won the World Cup title in Indonesia on Saturday. After returning, Wück warned: “The clubs have to find ways and means to give them playing time at the highest level.”

For Matarazzo, this is not just a question of the clubs. Talents have different potential. “There are simply differences in developments. Very often it has something to do with personality. Those who remain authentic and thrive on their strengths have the best chance,” said the TSG head coach. “I assume that not all U17 world champions will now become professionals.” In any case, all doors are open for Moerstedt at the Kraichgauer team: “This is really a top talent.”
In the current season, the right-footer was only used in the U19-BL South/Southwest: in nine games he scored ten goals and two assists. In the DFB Junior Cup, Moerstedt contributed four goals and two assists in two matches. At the U17 World Cup, the youngster, who came from FC Bayern’s youth team in 2021, came to the fore with four goals and two assists.
