Cercle defenders also in PSV focus
The return of captain Benjamin Hübner (33) at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is more uncertain than ever, so is the team, which is under coach André Breitenreiter, looking for another alternative for the central defense? As the “L’Equipe“ reported, the Kraichgau observe the development of Boris Popovic (22) at Cercle Bruges.

The Serbia Under-21 international, who was born and raised in France, left AS Monaco’s academy in the summer of 2021 for Belgium’s partner club, where he secured a regular place in the second half of the season. To date, Popovic has made 37 appearances (four goals) for Cercle Brugge. With the good performances in the current season, he is said to have played his way into the notebooks of TSG Hoffenheim and PSV Eindhoven.
According to the report, Popovic could be transferred in January despite a contract until 2025, even if both clubs have not yet taken any concrete steps. TSG has seven central defenders in the professional squad. In addition to the injured Hübner, Ermin Bicakcic (32) is currently being built up in the Hoffenheim U23s after a difficult rehabilitation after his cruciate ligament rupture. “Honestly, things don’t look so good with Hübi, he’s not making any steps forward,” said Breitenreiter recently. “It is very uncertain when he will come back.”
