Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim and central defender Ermin Bicakcic will no longer continue their nine-year partnership. The Kraichgauer confirmed on Saturday that they had mutually agreed not to renew the contract of the 33-year-old, which expired in June. The defender had played 147 competitive games for TSG since 2014 and contributed to twelve goals.
“Ermin was and is an absolute identification figure for TSG. For almost a decade, he stood for much that fans love with his irrepressible will, enormous fighting spirit and unshakable mentality. After numerous trusting and always constructive discussions, it finally became clear that the role we envisaged and our offer were not one hundred percent congruent with the visions that Ermin had at the end of his career. We would have liked to continue with him, but we respect his decision,” said TSG managing director Alexander Rosen.

“Even after his serious injury, we could count on him at the end of last season – he was there when we needed him. He was an emotional leader and a role model for professionalism, which is not least why we had initial talks with him about a possible future at TSG after his playing career. Ermin will definitely come back,” explained Rosen and regretted “that he wasn’t able to say goodbye to the TSG fans properly.” The TSG boss therefore emphasized: “It will be made up for as soon as possible and we are even thinking about a farewell game in due course, maybe even together with Sebastian Rudy.”
The player himself explained: “I owe TSG a lot. I matured here to become a seasoned Bundesliga professional and national player. I love this club and its fans and from day one to the last I felt the great respect that was shown to me and for that I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
