“Apps may be distributed on Google Play if they meet our guidelines,” a Google spokesperson said in a statement. This means, among other things, that messages posted by users can be moderated and offensive messages removed. Google says Truth Social has agreed to remove content that violates Google policies.
According to Devin Nunes, former congressman and director of the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), Google’s decision is “an important step to restore freedom of expression online.”
Trump founded Truth Social after being banned from Twitter in 2021. His Facebook and YouTube accounts were also deleted after he was charged with sedition after the storming of the Capitol in Washington on January 6 last year.
