MIAMI / WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) – The former US President donald trump did not comment publicly on the charges against him in the document affair in court. As expected, he pleaded “not guilty” – but had his lawyer Todd Blanche explain this without speaking himself, as a reporter from the German Press Agency reported on Tuesday from the court session in Miami. The Republican presidential candidate had to appear in person for the appointment in the state of Florida.
The meeting took place behind closed doors. Cameras and other electronic devices were not allowed in the courthouse. As a result, some of the details of the meeting only became public with a slight delay.
It is the first time a federal indictment has been filed against an ex-president. Trump did not take a police photo during his appearance at the Miami court, as is usual for the accused at such appointments. As expected, the ex-president was not handcuffed. However, Trump had to give fingerprints before the session, as a court official explained when asked.
Trump had already been charged at the state level in New York in April in connection with hush money payments to a porn star. In New York, too, the authorities had dispensed with handcuffs and a police photo with Trump./trö/DP/men
