Trump competitor Haley is probably giving up her bid for the US presidential candidacy

Nikki Haley is Donald Trump’s only remaining opponent for the Republican presidential nomination. But now, according to a report, she’s calling it quits.

According to a newspaper, former governor Nikki Haley wants to drop out of the race for the US Republican presidential nomination. The 52-year-old is about to withdraw her application, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. She is scheduled to make a statement in Charleston, South Carolina, on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. (local time), i.e. 4 p.m. German time.

On yesterday’s “Super Tuesday”, Haley was able to win the US Republican primaries over her opponent Donald Trump in only one of 15 states in Vermont. This means she hardly has any real chances of becoming the Republican presidential candidate. According to forecasts, Trump could collect the necessary number of delegate votes in the next primary elections next Monday.

According to the report, Haley should not link her statement on Wednesday to a recommendation for Donald Trump. Instead, she will “encourage” Donald Trump to secure the support of her supporters, writes the Wall Street Journal.

Haley had already made her application for the Republican presidential nomination public in February 2023. She was Trump’s first challenger and is now the last challenger to withdraw her application. Party leaders such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie had previously dropped out of the race on their own initiative. Nikki Haley has already served as governor of her home state of South Carolina and as US ambassador to the United Nations.
