A high-flying object was brought down over the northern Canadian province of Yukon. This is reported by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Saturday on Twitter. It is not clear what kind of object it is.
US airspace surveillance NORAD monitored the object, after which it was shot down by an American F-22. Canadian forces will analyze the wreckage, Trudeau said.
The Canadian Prime Minister also said he had been in contact with US President Joe Biden. On Friday, a US fighter jet shot down an object flying at high altitude over Alaska. According to the White House, it was an unknown object the size of a car. Biden himself gave the order to take down the object.
A spokesman for the US military said on Saturday that the object shot down on Friday has not yet been found and that the investigation is still ongoing. Salvage teams are working to collect the debris floating in US territorial waters.
The object flying over Alaska was not far from the Canadian border. Trudeau announced on Twitter on Friday that he was behind the downing of the object. “Our armies and intelligence services will always work together to create a secure situation.”

Surveillance balloon
Last Saturday, a Chinese balloon was shot down by the US off the coast of South Carolina. According to the United States, it was a surveillance balloon produced by China. The downing sparked a diplomatic row. According to China, it was a ‘civil aircraft’ mainly intended for meteorological research. According to the Chinese, the balloon had “unintentionally gone off course”.
Because of the alleged espionage, the US government has blacklisted five Chinese companies and a Chinese research institute. According to the US, these companies support Chinese space programs. Putting them on the blacklist makes it more difficult for them to buy American technology.
It’s not clear if the new object is related to Friday’s object, or to the Chinese balloon blasted from the sky by the US last week.
