A truck that loses cargo on the A58, it also caused delays on the highway on Tuesday morning. The Rijkswaterstaat inspector who came by to clean up the mess had a problem, he couldn’t get the load of wood off the road. But luckily there was Piet van Moerbeek, driver of the transport company of the same name. He had a hoist on his truck and saved the day.
He had just delivered his cargo to Eindhoven, says Piet. And was on the A58 on his way to Wouwse Plantage when he encountered the delay at Bavel. “A kind of dormer window had blown off a truck,” he says. “It lay there, a bit in the verge, and stopped the traffic.”
“I’ve been on the road for 54 years. Then you sometimes see something.”
Rijkswaterstaat was already there, but they did not have the resources to immediately remove the colossus from the road. Pete does. “I drive a super loader myself and have a crane,” he explains. “And I was at the front of the line.” One and one soon became two, for Piet. “So I helped those men clean up that dormer window.”
He tells it like it’s the normal thing in the world. “I’ve been on the road for 54 years. Now and then you see something.” Although cleaning up blown dormer windows is not part of his daily activities. “But you don’t see this every day,” laughs Piet.
Piet left the dormer in a parking lot a little further on, where the load of wood is further cleared. He himself is already on his way to the Wouwse Plantage.
