Fire inferno in Fürth! A truck drove uncontrolled into dozens of parked cars on Tuesday evening. Several cars caught fire, within seconds the flames spread – and also spread to a residential building.
The public prosecutor’s office has issued an arrest warrant for the 50-year-old driver from Turkey, who has no permanent residence in Germany.
According to the police, the driver of the trailer truck is said to have initially driven through a red traffic light, collided with a car, and the driver was slightly injured. Then he sped on and devastated everything around him: 31 cars over a distance of 500 meters were severely damaged. Then suddenly fire!
A police spokesman for BILD: “It looks like a battlefield. Several cars were pushed into each other. They’ve started to burn. The flames spread to the facade of a residential building.”
Firefighters had to rescue some residents from the fire. As of now, three people are said to have been slightly injured in the fire. The home was so badly damaged that some apartments may remain uninhabitable.
The windows of the house on the opposite side of the street also burst from the intense heat generated by the fire.
Rescue workers set up a collection point for residents and provided a bus for people to warm up in.
The driver of the truck was apparently drunk and was arrested. The man had to give a blood sample. According to a police spokesman, it is being determined because of endangering road traffic, and an arrest warrant has been issued. An expert is now to reconstruct the course of the accident.
