The Hungarian truck driver (57), who was involved in the fatal collision on the A58 near Moergestel on Friday, is free again. He was arrested after the collision, but was allowed to go again after making a statement. “He remains a suspect, of course,” emphasizes a police spokesperson on Saturday morning.
“We only detain suspects if necessary for the investigation,” explains the police spokesman. “After making the statement, there was no longer any need for that.”
Behind stationary car
A 68-year-old man from Belgium was killed in the collision. He was hit by the truck driver on the emergency lane. How things could go wrong is being investigated.
According to the police, the victim was standing with the trailer behind his stationary car when the accident occurred. Why he had stopped the car on the emergency lane has not been disclosed.
A woman who was in the car with the victim was not injured in the collision.
Closing
After the collision, the road near Moergestel was closed for a while. Rijkswaterstaat did not complete all repair and clean-up work until around midnight.
