There was a breakdown in an election for an important body in the Berlin House of Representatives on Thursday.

According to a parliamentary spokesman, a false ballot paper was distributed to the members of the so-called judges’ election committee.

The mistake was noticed when some parliamentarians had already voted in the polling booths that had been set up. The ballot was then aborted and the parliamentary session continued with the next item on the agenda.

The ballot for the Judge Election Committee should be repeated in the evening – then with the correct ballot papers.

The Judge Election Committee plays a key role in deciding on the appointment of professional judges in Berlin and on filling management positions in courts.
