Tropical temperatures lure 300,000 day tourists to the sea
A lot of people are looking for cooling by the sea this weekend. According to figures from the tourist provincial company Westtoer, about 300,000 day tourists dropped off. The coastal hotels were also able to benefit from the beautiful weather. For example, the hotels recorded an average occupancy of 90 percent. “The good weather forecasts resulted in a lot of last minutes,” it sounds.
Four extra trains to the sea
Transport company NMBS responded to the predicted crowds and added extra trains to and from the coast. Eight extra trains were provided to Ostend and Blankenberge and back on both Saturday and Sunday. “Sunday morning we added four extra trains to the sea. They will also be used tonight to transport travelers back to the interior,” says NMBS spokesman Bart Crols. Meanwhile, the situation in the stations remained under control. “It is busy, but manageable. During peak hours it was sometimes a bit of a queue, but extra trains were also provided at that time. Those extra trains will remain at the seaside to bring travelers back home tonight.”
